Cost of delivery calculator
Calculate the cost of delivering childcare using this cost of delivery calculator from the Pre-school Learning Alliance.
The Department for Education (DfE) is currently seeking information on provider delivery costs to help gain a better understanding of the cost of delivering childcare, and how this compares to early years funding rates.
To help settings to provide this information, the DfE created a cost template for providers. However, we at the Alliance raised strong concerns that this template is not sufficiently detailed and will lead to the submission of inaccurate and inconsistent data through no fault of providers.
For that reason, we have developed our own updated cost template and calculator for those providers who wish to submit their cost information to the DfE. Providers can use our 'Calculating Childcare Costs' Word document to calculate their total costs and total hours delivered, and then enter this information into the 'Cost of delivery calculator' spreadsheet, which will then use this information to estimate hourly delivery costs.
Calculating your hourly cost of delivery
STEP 1: Download the 'Calculating childcare costs' Word document and enter the relevant information to calculate your total annual delivery costs and hours delivered.
STEP 2: Download the Cost of delivery calculator spreadsheet (link also available on page 1 of the Word document) and enter this annual cost and hours deliver information. Your estimated hourly delivery costs will then be automatically calculated.
- STEP 3: Send both completed documents to the Department for Education Early Years Funding inbox: EARLYYEARS.FUNDING@Education.gov.uk, along with confirmation of your setting type and local authority, and any additional information you would like to provide, by 30 April 2018.
NB: If you have any queries about the steps above, please contact email@example.com
With the government currently preparing to evaluate the first year of the 30 hours policy, we believe it is vital that as many providers as possible take this opportunity to provide an up-to-date, accurate picture of their delivery costs.
We at the Alliance will continue to campaign for fairer early years funding through our Fair Future Funding campaign.
