Local and community
The Alliance was established in 1961 as a community-led movement by parents to meet the childcare needs of families locally.
We understand that local communities differ enormously from area to area — isolated areas require very different childcare services to families living in densely populated urban areas. There is no one size fits all model of childcare.
Developing close partnerships with Alliance members, local authorities, relevant childcare agencies and family support services enables us to support early years providers and professionals to make effective use of limited resources.
Local Alliance member support is a priority for us. We provide practical advice and support through our network of 20 Service Hubs and Member Forums.
Our hubs also enable us to work closely with over 150 partners, including local authorities, community organisations and funding agencies across England. This means we can deliver a range of affordable early years services to all kinds of families.
We work with local families in more direct ways too — through our parent forums, volunteer groups, childcare and drop-in services, family advice centres, adult learning programmes, and specialist family services.
